I feel since moving my parents to Gull Creek, they are enjoying life so much more. Whenever they need extra care someone is right there. Jamie has helped them get involved more in the facility's activities. Megan has really helped with their transition. Whenever I call with a question, it is taken care of right away. I cannot say enough good things about our experience for the last 14 months.

Our sister Wendy has lived at Gull Creek for the past nine months. We would like to commend the staff as they have made her transition to assisted living better than we could have imagined. She is really enjoying her neighbors & the daily activities. We highly recommend this facility. Thank you for your excellent care

Mom has been in Gull Creek for a little over a year.  Mom has made many friends with residents and staff alike.  The scheduled activities keep her busy, and we need to plan our visits around her favorite activities.  If our visits appear to start conflicting with Mom attending an activity, Mom will nudge us out the door by announcing that she will “walk us down”.  Mom enjoys the meals and is happy with the quality of the food that is prepared.  As far as my view of Gull Creek, it is a comfort to know that Mom is being assisted by a staff of caring people.  I have been very happy with the floor nursing staff that assures that Mom is taking her meds, drinking fluids and is generally taking care of herself.  If necessary, they will contact the PA on Mom’s behalf.  Eileen in particular has been excellent.  The housekeeping staff does a very good job.  Mom’s apartment is always clean, the garbage emptied regularly, and the common areas get the needed attention.  As I mentioned earlier, the activities team keeps the residents busy and will recruit residents to participate in order to keep them active and are given the opportunity to meet others.   Pam in the on-site beauty parlor is awesome with the residents.  The maintenance team does a great job of assuring the systems are working.  They have also assisted in changes in residents’ apartments as requested.   I am very happy with Gull Creek and appreciate the attention that the staff is giving to Mom and the other residents.

I moved my Mom from Rhode Island into Gull Creek just about a year ago so she could be closer to me. I was worried about her not knowing anybody but she quickly made friends and adjusted to her new life. Jamie and Leslie make sure there are plenty of activities to keep her busy. There is a wide variety so she can pick and chose the ones she likes. There is something for everybody!

Gull Creek feels like home. It feels luxurious yet friendly. Lots of upgrades to building lately. The team there are all so friendly. My parents lived there for a while and loved it, We are hoping to become a Resident here.

If your loved one has mid to late stages of dementia I would not recommend Gull Creek. They specialize in assisted living, independent living. They are not properly staffed, trained or equipped to handle mid to late stage Alzheimer's, though they advertise their memory care unit as such. You tell them all the concerns you have with your loved one beforehand when investigating the right place to care for him and they say we are used to that, this will be his home. That is not the case. You wait days for a nurse to change his meds and a few more days for the meds to come and by then you have serious problems. To make matters even more sad they want you to pay for a month and half of care instead of the 5 days he was there. Not once asking anything about how he is doing. The turnover is very high and they are not staffed for the challenges that come with the disease. With the exception of a couple staff members, they treat it like a poorly run business instead of a caring home.

Sad true story. My loved one is a current resident at the Gull Creek Valeo memory care unit. She arrived at Gull Creek in mid-April, 2018 after being medically assessed for admittance by Gull Creek medical staff, while hospitalized in Delaware. I had been the duly enacted medical and financial power of attorney, as well as the primary caregiver for the previous approximate two years, providing loving care at home, with the aid of home health nurses and the local adult day program.

By mid-May, 2018, about one month after arriving at Gull Creek, another (long lost) family member, along with their attorney and notary, victimized my loved one by executing new power of attorney documents that Gull Creek then deemed to be legally-binding.

Gull Creek allowed this outrageous situation to take place on their watch, at their facility, while my loved one is a resident in their "secure memory care" unit. They themselves assessed my loved ones' mental decline and determined her need to be in their Valeo memory care unit.

Gull Creek, without prior authorization, allowed an individual, a person unknown to them, ultimately an adverse family member, to take my loved one out of the secure memory care unit and move about w/out staff present. This occurred the first week of arrival, while I was still the designated Agent/POA for my loved one.

This serious breach of safety and security is really quite shocking. Gull Creek now say's their policy is "no one leaves the memory care unit without their Agent/POA to accompany them". It's too little; too late for me and my loved one.

My loved one has recent, documented medical history showing severe memory loss, inability to live independently, diminished cognitive capacity and "major neurocognitive disorder of the Alzheimer's type with behavioral disturbance". All these documented medical conditions are apparently worthless to stop the legal victimization that occurred.

And, the attorney even named her own self as the "Alternate" power of attorney for my family member, even though my loved one has her own family who is still able and willing to care for her. Maryland is like the wild west for safe and secure elder care. Beware.

Stay away from Atria Salisbury too. They failed my loved one last year, while she was a resident at Atria Assisted Living, with over-medication and at least two falls, while at their facility. The Director there was fired, and Atria Salisbury was cited for resident violations after my formal complaint was filed and the facility was investigated by the State of Maryland. I brought my loved one back home to continue her care with home health nurses, but sadly her condition continued to decline, hence another hospitalization and the current residency at Gull Creek memory care.

Get a lawyer is the best advice I can offer, but I couldn't get one to Be ready to empty out your bank account to fill the coffers of a law firm, and get geared up for a years long legal battle if you want to fight the insanity.

Sage Advice: Get your legal documents in place, but know it could all be undone after you are sick. Bad people can completely undo what was stated by the individual to be their desires, and was legally prepared, when the individual was of sound mind and body. Incredibly surreal situation. I am still in disbelief. C.

Updates for the curious of just how bad things can get if you get very sick, even when your legal documents are prepared and enacted:

The POA lied to Gull Creek & removed my family member, saying they were taking her on an "extended vacation". They moved her over a 1,000 miles away, to another facility, in Utah w/ a new POA, where she died in 12/2019. I was prevented by the new POA from speaking to my mom before she died, w/no legal reason. 08/20/2020: Gull Creek responded to a records request: "We lost all your mother's records, we can't find them." They accepted an ill-gotten power of attorney for a memory care resident which caused my dear mother to be victimized and then die. That's why her records are "missing". (RIP Mom)

We had to move our aunt into assisted living. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful as we decided on this transition. They helped all along the way and still do day to day without any complaints. I highly recommend Gull Creek. From the apartments to the food and staff, and I know we are always welcomed there.
