Sunrise of Frederick was a 10 out of 10 for our family. Sadly, my father passed away after a short three-month stay, but I couldn't have picked a better place for Dad to spend his final days.
First, the care team, coordinated by Jude, was excellent. The care team treated Dad like family. They were friendly, caring, and supportive of our family, never showing any negativity or irritation when performing tasks that certainly were unpleasant at best. Dad loved joking with them and they certainly liked to tease him about all his new girlfriends. Thank you specifically to Zebib, Kidist, Germaine, and Rebecca. These care members were lovely and present most often during our visits (which were three to five days a week).
Second, administrative staff--Brenda, Katrice, Nicole, Caroline, and Susan--were always willing to answer questions. Brenda has created a family atmosphere that extends well beyond the care team. I had payment questions early on, which were answered quickly by Katrice and Nicole. Caroline worked tirelessly to get Dad involved in Sunrise activities. Susan listened to Dad's dietary needs. And even receptionists--Nancy, Sakeena, and Lisa--greeted me like a sister when entering each day. Thank you also to Brad for handling maintenance requests in a timely manner.
This truly is a love letter to the family we didn't know we'd need, but are forever grateful that Dad had. We love you, Sunrise of Frederick!

Mom moved to Sunrise of Frederick after Dad died. I think she felt comfortable there and it was a good fit. I think that staff were caring. Mom was wheelchair-bound, and providing transportation to doctor appointments was a valued benefit. Brad provided fabulous transportation and logistical care for Mom. Activities were inconsistent. Mom complained that she went to activities and was the only one there. Shortly before Mom died, I took a bunch of roses from AARP to distribute at a planned Valentines day event, and waited for about 45 minutes after the advertised event, and nothing happened. Residents gathered and waited for an event that never seemed to occur. Many staff members are foreign-born and Mom had a hard time understanding their accents.

Communications concerning Mom's care, transportation, and finances were spotty. Sometimes I would send an email providing or asking for information and had to repeat communications to get a response. Ultimately, I was able to get the information I needed. I just wish that it didn't take so much effort on my part. There were also lack of clear information about vaccinations provided at Sunrise of Frederick.

Overall, I liked this facility and thought it was a good fit for Mom. I wish that they valued family too.

Moving our 90-year-old mom into an assisted living was a tough but necessary decision. After looking at a few, Sunrise stood at the top of the list. It's now been 6 months & friends ask how it's going. My response: "Better than I ever hoped or expected". The level of care & kindness for not only mom, but the whole family has been amazing! Mom is safe, (she has dementia so this was very important), happy, healthy & all of her needs are met! When I leave after a visit, there is no sense of dread, that she won't be well cared for. As difficult as the placement decision is, Sunrise has been the perfect facility for my mom & our family.

I am a home health care clinician that has been serving this community at Sunrise of Frederick for several years. Caregiver staff are friendly, well attentive and willing to be educated on techniques to provide the best quality care for each individual resident's needs. Additionally, management staff continuosly advocate for their resident's to ensure they are receiving the best medical and personal care available. Maintenance and housekeeping are always working to ensure a clean and safe environment. Although difficult to please everyone, the quality of food and service in the kitchen and dining room are superb, as resident's consistently report good reviews of meals. Overall, Sunrise of Frederick is an assisted living community that I have recommended to friends and family and will continue to recommend. If a family loved one of mine would ever need assisted living care, I would definitely consider Sunrise of Frederick as my top option.

From the very first time we spoke with the Sunrise staff, I found them to be very personable, responsive and professional. Their conversation always conveyed their priority for mom’s care and, even to work to improve her health. Gladly, their actions spoke as loud as their words.

Every time we come to Sunrise, we are always warmly greeted, and usually by more than one person. We are greeted with warmth and smiles everywhere we go.

They have been very quick to respond to my mother’s needs, and through some challenges, they have provided physical and emotional support. They engaged whatever medical personnel was needed and kept us informed.

When we have been there long hours, they wanted to make sure that, along with my mother, we were also eating and showed concern for us as well.

When my mother needed to go to the hospital for an issue, some of the Sunrise staff came to make personal visits, not business-related, but personal visits.

Katrice has been there to help us with every conceivable situation and there doesn’t seem to be any challenge that she’s not willing to undertake and advocate for us.

Brenda, the executive director, always seems to be available. She has an open door policy and is willing to talk about any issue. This is rare indeed.

Line-Carol and Jude take excellent medical care of my mom and again, always keep us informed.

Lynn Delinger (Dining Room Services Coordinator) took a personal interest in my mom. She helped decorate her room, visited her in the hospital and would offer to help her in any way she could.

We are so we have been so pleased with our experience at sunrise and know you will be too.

My mother lived at Sunrise of Frederick until her recent passing. They took very good care of her and were kind, friendly, and gentle with her. Prior to my mom's passing, my dad and mom were together at Sunrise. My dad passed first, and Sunrise set up a special, separate room for him to be in hospice so that Mom could visit him but also have their suite to retreat to when she was overwhelmed. The way Sunrise helped us all through Dad's hospice was wonderful. Mom, Dad, and children visited many assisted living facilities prior to them deciding on Sunrise of Frederick, and we are really pleased with the care they received at Sunrise. They were able to stay together and age in place as their dementia increased, and that was the best we could have asked for.

Finding Sunrise of Frederick was better than winning the lottery! Seeing my mother thriving and smiling is a reflection of the superior care she receives and the vibrant environment that stimulates her.

Of course, the immaculately kept, safe and secure facility, coupled with the strong sense of community are important elements of what continues to make Sunrise of Frederick the perfect choice for my cherished family member, but the overwhelmingly important factor in what, by far, makes this the unicorn of assisted living scenarios, is the ever-compassionate, dedicated and hard working staff. Everyone is always ready to step up to the plate to help, even if it's not their assigned role or responsibility. Any time I visit, everyone knows where my mom is and how she's doing. All staff members are informed and the lines of communication are defined and open. Each staff member seems to truly enjoy being there, is smiling or laughing, and they are always interacting with the residents.

And, there is much more. My mom is always clean and meticulously cared for. She is fed appealing and abundant meals, even homemade desserts to chose from. There is even a whimsical Coco Cola room we can reserve if we want to have a private meal with her. There is always movement and hustle throughout the facility and, the most telling sign, all residents are always happy.

Sunrise's high energy and upbeat vibe is not the stereotype often associated with an assisted living scenario: I am beyond grateful to have found this unique extension of our family and source of my peace of mind.

Some of the standouts (and there are even many more) in this sea of talented professionals include:

Germaine - The superstar! She is a loving caretaker who has learned my mother's nuances and works diligently to achieve so much with her, both health- and contentment-wise. She recently got her out of bed, showered and dressed for a 7:45 am appointment. That is dedication and nothing short of a miracle. She treats her as if she were her mom, so compassionate and loving. She was born to be a caretaker.

Jude - Even though he has extensive management responsibilities, he is always available to lend a listening ear, gives knowledgeable advice and makes things happen. He was recently found taking my mom's direction on how to painstakingly stage her stuffed animal collection. That says a lot. No one is too lofty for hands on.

Line- Carol - As a nurse for Sunrise, she is very clinically knowledgeable, but also brings to the table her very calm demeaner and caring heart. She jumps into action immediately and always gives me a sense of security about the well-being of my mom.

Katrice - Kind of the mayor of the town, she keeps a watchful eye, gives sage advice and is always ready to compassionately help with any task. Her humor always puts me in a happy mood. She is simply real.

Lisa and Sakeena - No matter how stressful my day is, I'm always moved right into a happy place as these two genuine women greet me with such warmth, smiles and such a willingness to make my experience positive. They jump into action in a heartbeat and know what's going on any time of day. Two very valuable assets.

Liz - This very hardworking woman has always has the sweetest smile and greeting. You can tell she is so prideful of the facility. Everything is spotless any time of the day and it always smells fresh and clean.

Trevon - The activities director of one's dreams. He has curated a perfect mix of events, and lots of them, to stimulate both the minds and the bodies of the residents. He gets to know them and spends time chatting with them. You can tell he has a passion for what he does.

Brenda - No pulling rank here. Her door is always open and she is a visible moving part to everything happening at Sunrise. Her skilled strategic ability to manage this facility, yet remain so approachable and caring, is unique and appreciated.

Why do I have time to write a long review? Because, at Sunrise Frederick, I have a community of trusted partners that share the care for my mom. Thank you!

My mom went to Sunrise for respite care and was there over a month. It was difficult time for our family, and Sunrise made everything so much better. After a hospital stay my mom needed a place to recover while I was out of the country - they transitioned her from the hospital and took great care of her! Chante, Allie and the staff are AMAZING. Ultimately we needed to move my mom closer to my home, but I recommend Sunrise if its within your budget. The care is excellent.
